(Christ Himself) would be broken (cf. Isa. 8:14–15), and whoever it fell upon would be ground to dust (cf. Dan. 2:34, 44–45). These are strong warnings of the judgment that awaits those who reject Jesus Christ. It is not surprising that when the chief priests and Pharisees heard these two parables they perceived that he spake of them (v. 45). The point was altogether obvious. But instead of repenting, they sought to arrest Jesus. Only fear of the crowds, who held Him a prophet of God, kept them from
